The featured technology company this month is  Soma Water . Soma is an innovative company making elegant, environmentally friendly, water filtration products.

A brilliant, young entrepreneur named Mike Del Ponte founded Soma.   The inspiration came from a dinner party he was hosting where he was pouring water for guests ( from the leading water purifying carafe) and the top fell off of the water container mid-pour.  Water spilled all over the table and guests, needless to say, it was a bit of an embarrassing mess.

After the dinner party Mike thought there has to be a better way to purify water and serve this to guests in an elegant reliable vessel.

How Drink Soma Came to Be

Mike crafted his company with the intention of not just creating another water purifying company, but with the integrity and ideals which were aligned with his own purpose and values—environmental stewardship and responsibility, giving back, doing well for people, providing clean drinking water , all delivered with esthetic design and elegance.

Soma water  has a beautiful glass carafe that is intentionally glass instead of plastic because glass is much more environmentally sound. It’s also a beautiful, higher quality product than anything available in the market today.  The filter they designed is made primarily out of coconut husks and is compostable and biodegradable. So instead of having filters that you end up throwing away in the trash, Soma’s filter you can put in your compost bin and it’ll go back to nature, right where it came from.

The Mindfull Vision of Drink Soma: Water for the Third World

Soma has a strategic partnership with Charity Water, a leading NGO that provides clean, safe drinking water to people in great need around the world, primarily in the developing third world. Part of the proceeds from every product sold by Soma is donated to Charity Water. Mike has travelled  to Ethiopia with the Charity Water team, seeing the powerful impact  their projects have in providing clean, safe drinking water to those in need.
