Traditional fire walking has been used as a rite of passage in tribal cultures dating back to 1200 BC. More recently, Tony Robbins is empowering people like you and me to experience their own right of passage and personal growth by discovering their inner power through fire walking.
My recent experience attending a course led by Tony Robbins started with a full day of mental and physical preparation. The first task was to define my life purpose, which would create the foundation for putting me in a confident, positive state of mind to do the fire walk. No small task, defining one’s life purpose. Yet, what could be more important and impactful than clearly identifying what I am here to accomplish in this lifetime.
Once I was able to clearly see and define my life purpose, the next big question to answer was, what is limiting me from accomplishing this? This ultimately leads to deeper exploration into what is the biggest fear in my life? What fear limits me from achieving my life’s purpose? Tony points out, quite importantly, that our fears do not only limit us, they also have a beneficial purpose and serve us in a perverse way. Most often, fear is created in our unconscious mind to protect us and make us feel strong and secure for our ultimate survival (flight/ fight response).
So what is the unintended and unconscious benefit of living with that fear which serves us? In full transparency, my main fear is letting go, not being in control, allowing life to unfold without me having to be the person to “make it all happen”. Upon deeper reflection, I realize that the unintended benefit of this fear, is being self sufficient, being the person others go to get things done, being driven to achieve most of my goals and not being dependent on others to realize success. By me being the “go to” person, I benefit from creating relationships with many people, having them appreciate me and seeking me out when they need someone with my expertise to get the job done. This makes me feel cared for, needed and valued – pretty good benefits and outcomes for me and for others.
In the case of fire walking, it is rational and self-preserving for my mind to create fearful thoughts of being burned. Yet, with Tony’s guidance and positive motivation, my mind was trained to be in an elevated, fearless state as I repeated the positive affirmation – “cool moss, cool moss”. Visualizing myself walking on cool moss and repeating this “mantra” as I walked over the coals, put me in a relaxed, confident state of body and mind. The outcome was no fear and no burn. Success! Mind over coals.
This elevated experience of fire walking is just one way to unleash our inner power and overcome fear to attain a confident, positive state of mind to achieve great happiness and success in our lives. Creating a positive, mindful state can empower each of us to create success in other areas of our life: business, family and relationships. Having a daily practice of preparing and training our body and mind to be relaxed, creating positive thoughts, not feeding the flames of fearful thoughts, we create successful outcomes.
Here is to unleashing your inner power to live your life purpose and create great happiness and success in your life! “Cool moss, cool moss”…..

My empowerment experience comes tomorrow evening at my first ever art show! It may not be fire walking, but I will think “cool moss, cool moss” throughout the show.
Dear Stu – Very inspiring. We are all here on this planet equipped with unique skills and mindset to make an Impact on others. A poet that I greatly admire said this to me once – ‘a measure of your success in life should be not how many buildings you own but in how many hearts have you found a place in.’ Here is an article I wrote last year on ‘Making a pact to make Impact.’ http://www.mentorcloud.com/blog/2013/12/7/make-a-pact-with-yourself-and-time-to-make-an-impact
Congratulations on launching this site and inspiring the rest of us.
This is useful since we all have fears and all need the motivation to confront them which ultimately must come from within. Lots of fear around starting a new business… don’t want to let the coals get the best of me. Thanks for sharing,
From the number of comments, this is definately an extremely engaged topic. Whenever I come back to this post there’s an interesting guest post better than some of the prior ones.
